Pre-Fight Medical Requirements
Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Athletic Commission
(effective 1/1/04)

  1. A comprehensive physical examination, conducted by the fighter’s private medical doctor.  This examination should be performed within one (1) year of the contest.  The competitor should be medically cleared to fight and should be indicated on doctor’s letterhead “fit to compete”.

 

  1. An ophthalmologic (eye) examination including a dilated retinal exam within twelve (12) months of the contest.  The competitor must have indicated on doctor’s letterhead “fit to compete”
  1. A normal baseline CT Scan or MRI anytime after beginning professional career.

 

  1. A MRI, CT Scan or complete neurological examination (neuro test must be performed by a Neurologist indicating on letterhead “fit to compete”) within twelve (12) months of the contest.
  1. A normal baseline EKG (heart test) anytime after beginning professional career.  (Must be interpreted by Cardiologist – Computer is not acceptable)

 

  1. Negative HIV serology (AIDS Blood Test) within six (6) months of the scheduled contest.
  1. A Negative Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBV sAg) – within six (6) months of the scheduled competition. (note: negative Hep B sAb, cAb, eAg, are not acceptable.

Exceptions:  Hepatitis B:  If a fighter has undergone a vaccination series for Hepatitis B, they may present proof of immunity.  This is via a blood test called HBV sAB.  If this test is positive, the fighter is considered immune to the virus and does not need to be tested for the HBV sAg.

  1. Negative Hepatitis C serology (Blood Test) within six (6) months of the scheduled contest.

 

  1. Any additional test and/or examinations may be required or amended at the discretion of the Commissioner or Medical Advisory Board.
  1. For female competitors:  A negative pregnancy test (urine or blood HCG) within fourteen (14) days of the scheduled contest.

 

  1. For female competitors:  A normal gynecologic examination within six (6) months of the scheduled contest.

Please NoteThese requirements comply with the ABC/AAPRP Basic Medical Requirements for Medical Qualification in Boxing.  Also, any boxer that is over forty (40) years old on or before the scheduled event is required to have additional testing, please contact Commissioner Timothy for these additional requirements.
