Prospect Watch: Will Kerr
Training and fighting out of New London, Connecticut’s
Strikezone gym, New London Country’s own Will
Kerr is set to enter the cage Saturday night
in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Will is complete
MMA practitioner: strong wrestling foundation,
slick jiu-jitsu and an ever expanding striking
game. And he doesn’t have a corny nick name.
Look for Will to up his record to 6-1 Saturday
in Massachusetts and go on to big things in the
future.
And if you have a nick name suggestion for Mr.
Kerr, submit it to Chutewriter@usfightleague.com.
Sorry, Rampage and the Axe Murderer are already
taken.

Underdog Special
Phil ‘the New York Bad Ass’ Baroni steps back
in the cage against up and coming Hawaiian slugger
Ross Hose. Hose was originally supposed to fight
Miletich Fight System product Robbie Lawler for
the ProElite’s middleweight belt a few months
back, but a series of injuries forced Lawler
out of the fight.
The Vegas line has installed Baroni as a -350
favorite (meaning if you bet a hundy on Baroni
and he loses, you owe 350 bucks). That line
is way to big; take Hose to ride his brawling
and stamina to a victory. This is a perfect storm
for Hose; Baroni is coming off a steroid suspension,
a leg surgery, a sleep inducing rear naked choke
courtesy of Frank Shamrock, the fight is in Hose’s
back yard, and Phil has never been a cardio demon.
Look to the 25-year old slugger to out-bad ass
the New York Bad Ass for a relatively early stoppage
victory.
And while you’re betting, take Japanese Judoka
stand-out and Olympic silver medalist Jung Bu-Kyung
to win the Dream Lightweight tournament. I know
I picked JZ Calvancante to win the tourney, and
I know I predicted a first round loss for Jung,
but Jung has been installed as a 22-1 underdog.
His last fight was a very close decision loss
of Shinya Aoki. 22-1 underdog is an insult.

Remembering Shogun Rua…
I must admit, Forrest Griffin’s choke out of
Chute Boxes’ Mauricio Shogun Rua’s as my darkest
day as an MMA fan. Also, Rua recently was forced
to withdraw with an upcoming fight with Chuck
Liddell because he blew out the ACL he had repaired
after the Griffin fight. I’m sensing these constant
knee injuries won’t allow him to live up to his
all-world potential.
But before everyone writes off the former number
one ranked Light Heavyweight in the world, here
is a video of his march through the Pride Lightweight
Tourny. This is why he was named the 2005 Fighter
of the Year.

Notice the background music. It is the same
song that USFL president Jay Jodoin used to warm
up to during his high school wrestling days.
And yes, he once had a Flock of Seagulls hair
cut.
